q3a problems

Sound is choppy when the game is run as a normal user, works great as root though.

Also, the exit screen (credits) is part of the initial screen when I run q3a a second time (I'm guessing it isn't shutting down properly), making the playing area very small. I looked over q3config.cfg and can't find anything relating to the startup screen. I've checked loki's faqs and I've looked here.

Anyone had these problems b4?

Athlon 600
256MB SDRAM
ATI XPERT98 PCI 8MB
Ensoniq AudioPCI
Mandrake 8 running GNOME w/ esd

Is the screen choppy to? So far it kind of sounds like the video drivers aren't set up right.

Video is working great, Mandrake8 really impressed me with video accel configuration at install.

The credits screen is leftover from the last game's exit, and it causes the actual game area to be a lot smaller.

I think there is a problem with the config file generated by the game after it's first run, although I've gone through every option in that file and can't figure it out.
