I'm planing on building a new comp and installing only linux, i'm a gamer and this comp will be top of the line (latest palimino, Geforce 2 ultra, not sure aoubt sound card yet) and i was wondering what is gaming like for linux. Does it take a long time to initially setup a game, but then you just double click to play? how long did it take your vid card to work well? how much time should i research on compatibility with linux? how well (fps-wise) is playing under linux vs. win9x?

Penguin Gaming is SOOOOO SWEET..

UT runs like a dream, Soldier of Fortune is great...

Sound is OK, OSS lacks full duplex but then there is alway ALSA.
Video, with Nvidia drivers is EASY and FAST...

Right now I'm running Mandrake 8.0

Soo it sets up the soundcard, and the Nvidea drivers are NHF'ed soo ANYBODY can do it.

FPS wise the Linux version of UT fx. runs 10-15 fps faster than Windows.. But I overclock my vidcard under Windows, and I don't using Windows soo it is even more impressiv than it sounds.

It takes a matter of hours before you are up and running.

The Lokigames are all installed using the same scripts soo that you mount the cdrom drive and run ./setup.sh in /mnt/cdrom, I prefer doing this as root to allow every user access to the games.

Then it take a few minuts to install a game.
