cool 3D games

I am looking for some really cool freed 3D games for linux to show that there are really good games out there for Linux.

Actually any cool games would be nice.

Quake3 is the coolest. Maybe UT. Had a blast playing Descent3d for the first time this weekend. SoF is pretty decent. I've heard Tribes2 kicks ***.

I believe the questions was for some free 3D games, like Tuxracer - which rocks. You can also check out the Parsec lan test, www.parsec.org. (http://www.parsec.org.) Just check out www.happypenguin.org (http://www.happypenguin.org) there is a lot of great 3D games listed, you just have to search a bit through the not-so-3d games.

Thanks for all your suggestions I REALLY like what I see however all the downloads are between 20mb and 60mb that would take forever over a dialup.
So how about smaller cool 3D Linux games.
I don't know if that is really possible.

Well, if you have patience, and let your connection run all nite, you can get one a nite.

Or, order one of the full versions from ebgames.com for $10 - Each of the ones I got last week came with 2 other demos on them.

Go to www.tuxgames.com, (http://www.tuxgames.com,) I believe they have a demo CD you can buy that has quite a few games on it. Again take a look at Tuxracer over at www.happypenguin.org, (http://www.happypenguin.org,) it is a simple game but you will be amazed at how good it is and the fact that just one guy made it, AFAIK. Also at Happy Penguin you can find BZFlag and I'm sure many others. What type of 3D game are you looking for?

Ones that are more like simulators. Flight,cars,space,etc...

hmm...you would happen to know where a Linux version of an X-COM like game would be would you?

Most of the 3D games I have seen are good. I just don't really like the first person shooters though (ie doom,quake,etc) just me I guess, seems like everyone else loves them.

if you like flight games, definitely check out Descent3. That is almost all I play. (if any of you play it regularly, which I doubt, you might have seen me on PXO) You fly a small fighter craft, blasting robots in single player, and fighting similar crafts in multiplayer. You NEED a SideWinder joystick to play it though, but believe me, it is the most fun you can have while sitting on front of a computer. No wussy ground to stay on like in UT or Quake3. :)

I've got Descent3, and it works fine with my near standard Quake config - mouse and keyboard all the way! Although I do have a Sidewinder, and it is working in Linux, I just never use it....
