Hi, I've installed squake (shareware) on my linux box. This linux box is in network with a win98SE box. The network is working fine as I can ping each boxs and my internet connection is in my linux sharing to win98SE with PMfirewall. Here is the problem:
When I try to play multiplayer with my win98SE and my linux box (only those 2 pcs not with internet), I cant see same options in the multiplayer menu. Here are the choices i got from each boxs:
linux: only tcp/ip (no modem, direct-connect or IPX)
win98SE:modem and direct-connect.
So, I cant play with my 2 pcs in the same game. There is also somethin weird, the version of my squake is 1.09 and in the win98SE it is 1.06
I dont understand why caus i download quake106.zip ....maybe the 1.09 version is the shareware for linux..dunno....
Well, finally, any help would be very helpful...
Thanks much and keep fraggin

I'd get the full version of quake, and then get Winquake for your Win* machines, and you should be good to go at that point.

If you have a 3rd pentium class machine wiht at least 32mb of ram, you can run a QuakeWorld server on it and play from the other 2 machines - this can be better, especially if you want to run some bots to play against.

And, if you have some serious horsepower, get vmware and make it your "3rd" machine :)

Ok, after some reading on winquake, i still have a little question.
First, i've red that I dont need the full version of quake to install winquake, it says that it work as fine with quake shareware. 2nd, it looks like it will fix the 1.09 vs 1.06 version I had (will upgrade to 1.09 on my win machine). The question I have, how will i start a multiplayer game since i wont see the other options in my linux box? (still only tcp/ip). I think i should need the option IPX...Still very confused....
thanks for the help ph34r.

Winquake runs fine on tcp/ip. Should work fine with squake or the quakeforge.net "nuq" stuff.
