Hello, I just got my copy of ut(goty). I dowload the handy little install for it(yes the newest goty installer). I ran this program and Had a nice clean install of it... nothing crashed... and the whole thing seemed to install well.

I have a voodoo3, i'm using xf864.0.2, 2.4.4 kernel(I guess thats all that matters)

I have q3 working just fine.

i type ut and this is what I get:
---------------------------------------------
gd error (glide): Can't find or access Banshee/V3 board
grSstQueryHardware failed
No localization: SDLDrv.Errors.Failed3D (int)
<?int?SDLDrv.Errors.Failed3D?>
Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault]
Aborting.
Exiting.
Name subsystem shut down
Allocation checking disabled
Segmentation fault
---------------------------------------------

I'm not sure what I have todo... i've done apt-get libglide3*, I have my kernel setup for my motherboard and my video card... q3 works... and I'm pretty sure that xf86 is setup.

(I'm using debian (progency) I think its woody based... not sure... but i doubt that has anything to do with it)

Thank you all
-Will

I had the same problem but can't for the life of me remember what I had to do. I have Xfree86 4.0.3 now and I don't think I had to do anything. You may have to add a comment upon starting UT to point it to the correct GL drivers. I recommend you check out Loki's FAQ for UT.

did you install the glide libaries? (2x and 3x i think)

that error looks weird...normally when you get an error about it not being able to access the V3 card, it is a problem with the driver. Either you havent loaded the 3dfx module, or you havent built it correctly. This cant be your situation though, because you played Q3...hmmmm

Have you tried running the game under OpenGL?

I havn't tride using the opengl driver(s). In caldera I just forced the rpms... right now i'm using debian... I have the libglide3 and 2 i think... installed and I have my kernel setup to game... how/where would i go about to install the opengl stuff?

I hope that made sense

I still havn't tried the opengl drivers... so how would i set that up.

I read in my maximum linux mag that ut wouldn't work with glide3... so i tried it with glide2... it didn't work.

I tried editing my UnreadTornement.ini file... I changed and tried all three different options (software, opengl, glide) this didn't work.

I think I have to get sdl... I tried that but i had dependency issues and I couldn't get that up.

Any other options?

so where do i get/how do i setup opengl? I've been using the 3dfx rpms and the libglide deb files for so long that when I think opengl... I think opengl for windows.

Sorry... i bet that sounded dumb... (i know i just get mesa and read the readme file) what I ment to says was is there anything weird about setting it up with a voodoo3.

What version of X are you using? Also, I typically have a script that start UT and points explicitly to the glide/mesa that it ships with...

fear... I'm using XF864.0.2, When i run the install script for ut (goty) and I select what rendering too to use... does it just point to the gl driver(s) or does it install them for you... I download the mesa ones... I'm at school so i havn't tried to set it up.

This script you speak of... could you email it to me... or upload it to my ftp?

Thanks for the help,
-Will

I have the exact same problem, I have X 4.0.3 and a Riva TNT2 Ultra.

I got it working, I reinstalled UT and selected OpenGL and not Glide as the binary type.
