Need help installing Quake Arena Demo

I've been trying to install the Quake Arena demo without much luck. I'm very new to Linux so any help would be great.

I'm typing at the concole:
# sh linuxq3ademo-1_11-6_x86_gz.sh

I get the message:

Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0".
QObject::connect: Cannot connect KAction::activated() to Konsole: :(null)

Not sure what you mean by "console" but you need to have X running and start the install from a terminal.

Terminal... console... same thing really. What I probably should have said was command prompt. I'm running the terminal window from KDE and also tried Gnome.

Anyone??? I can't get the darn thing to install.
