Ut/xmms annoyances

With linux mandrake 7.1 it has the drivers built in (i upgraded my c-media 8738 sound chip from a sb awe 64 value) xmms starts fine but eventually either starts fast forwarding for no reason or stops alltogher (recently while playing mp3's from a burned cd) My other problem is when i'm playing unreal tournmeant as a normal user, everything starts fine through the city scene (well, for a few seconds of it) and when a pratice session starts i lose all sound, this doesn't happen as root too.


Another problem is when i try to find servers for ut useing the in-game browser the game praticlly frezzes (mouse movement and all actions take a very long time to do anything)


any ideas?

note: 3D in ut is done in glide by a voodoo 1

Im not sure if this is right, I am at work right now. Try doing a chmod 777 on /dev/mixer /dev/audio /dev/dsp

Maybe that will help...
