a friend of mine is looking for a floppy controller card, ISA, that uses a goldstar 2c or 3b chip. not linux-related; his wife wants to use a pc to copy design files to floppies that can be read by some kind of sewing machine-type of device, and it seems the 3.5" floppies must be single-sided with at least track0 single-density.
screwy, proprietary system but i gotta give her props for being willing to experiment.

i've got a couple controller cards i just got at home, i will check them out and post the model numbers for you tonight. i can't remember if they are ISA or EISA off the top of my head.

i'm not *certain* that isa is a requirement, it was part of the recommendation that mary received. seems likely that a controller of that vintage would be isa, i think, but might be available in eisa.

argh i KNEW i remembered something about a floppy card being posted.
i'll email myself, maybe that'll make me remember to check on it.

i dunno if either of these will do you, but you can look them up: one is a sc-jka052 made by siig, the other is... i dunno. it's fcc id is f13pc-3292u
neither of them says goldstar on it anyway, so i prolly can't help ya. but if you decide you want one throw me a message.

thank you, YaRness, for posting that information. so far, i've discovered that the second card is made by Biostar but i've been unable to get specifics as to whether either card can format single-density tracks. i haven't given up the search yet - just wanted to give you an update.
(btw and fwiw: when i said thanx in my previous message, it was intended for both YaRness AND uriah.k. somehow, when i read through the previous posts just now, that seemed unclear. i surely didn't mean to slight anybody!)
