can any of you hook me up with a good NIC that is supported by linux?! give me some info on what youve got and ill see waht i can do

Well, the Netgear fa310TX is supported pretty well, uses the tulip driver, and they're not expensive at all, I got 2 for $15 and that was 6 months ago or more. And I just bought an Fa311 for $12 shipped so you can find a cheap NIC with good support pretty easy. Check the agora classifieds over at arstechnica, they're a few 3com ones on sale now.

Do a search for "rtl8139", "tulip", or any other chipset supported by Linux.

I see RTL8139's for $10, NE2000's for $6.

It's not the brand of the card that matters, it's the CHIPSET.
