It would be nice if the NHF section was searchable by keyword so that newbies like myself can find what we are looking for without having to go through all categories. I have found that some NHF's I found were in a category that didnt make sense to me. Maybe its just me. Anyway...its an idea.

It's not just you - I had the same problem. There are some great NHFs but they can take a lot of finding. A few months ago someone or other did an index of all NHFs which I think solved the problem. I've got the URL on my machine at home and will post it when I finish work unless someone else does it firsst.

The index is at http://www.crosswinds.net/~fancypiper/nhf_index.html
It's been up for a few months now and I'm not sure if he updates it when new NHFs get added. Also, the crosswinds server is being upgraded right now and all you will get are progress reports.
The underline hides the fact that there is an underscore between nhf and index.

I have been busy with the band. We are trying for a new CD release in March, so my internet stuff has been sliding.

BTW, you can speed up your search by mirroring the site and searching locally. Try:

wget -m -t3 http://www.linuxnewbie.org

It will take a while the first time because of all the pictures Sensei has. If you don't remove them, later mirrors will skip D/Ling them.

How would you do that? Obviously first you would get into your site but where would you execute the wget command? From an eterm window? And once you have mirrored it, where and how would you access it next time?
If that makes me seem ignorant, it's because I am.
Fancypiper, I've used the index several times and I'm very grateful that you went to all that trouble. Best of luck with the CD - unfortunately it is not likely to be released here in Australia but you never know.

I'm talking Linux, so either from an xterminal or virtual terminal, type the command:

wget -m -t3http://www.linuxnewbie.org

Wget will then download the entire site and place it in a directory. For example. my user directory is:

/home/phil

so it downloads into:

/home/phil/www.linuxnewbie.org

After it is downloaded, you can access it all from Netscape, the file manager, etc., just as you would anything you downloaded.

Crosswinds lost my stuff, so until I can re-upload it, here is my index.
