ShadowGoblin 03-17-2001, 09:54 PM Go here we need your voices! http://www.petitiononline.com/athome2/petition.html Max Powers 03-18-2001, 03:30 PM this is for upload speed? i know ive done another one at that site for upload speed, i guess there doing another cuz comcast didnt respond to the first. i guess ill vote at this one too. Max Powers 03-18-2001, 03:34 PM o never mind. i guess i should read it before i say what i think its for :D  vvx 03-19-2001, 03:39 AM You want more speed? Give them more money... Unfortuneatly, businesses usually aren't much affected by petitions, yes we live in a democracy, but @home isn't a government service (yet). They drive on money.. Now, that means they can't pay more for the bandwidth than they charge you for, and it means they're not likely to do crap unless it affects their profits. So, either find a way to make bandwidth cost less money for them, or put your money somewhere else. Sweede 03-19-2001, 04:13 AM i know right ? it is like this.. the price of a T-3 line, even AT&T has a HUGE (20-30k+ per month) bill on these digital services, so im sure cable companies are paying AT LEAST that much per line. A single T-3 can support up to about 45megabits/sec. thats only about 5 megabytes/second MAX per T-3, so if 10 people are downloading at 500kps, the WHOLE T-3 is saturated with only 10 people !!! and since Cable network is SHARED meaning THE ENTIRE town is using the same cable feed (more or less the whole town), and your COAX cable can only support ~ 8 megs/second MAX, you can oversell COAX cable with 10 users. there is no problem with the @Home service other than stupid people *****ing about what they dont understand. As more and more people subscibe to Cable modem internet solutions, the slower Cable modems will get BECAUSE the cable modem technology is SHARED media. Now, why doesnt DSL have this problem? why is DSL service superior ? Cable Technology is a whole new/old idea. if you have a garden hose and you put a tap in it, the pressure gets lower with each tap. thats cable modem. DSL is like this, instead of a tap, you put a valve. This valve is open for an instant, and when that single valve is open, all others are closed. This leaves the FULL bandwidth per valve. This is the same concept of a DATA Switch and is why and how the phone company has operated for decades. PCM and STDM rule the world :D justlinux.com
