Yes, I am pimping another website.. but it is a direct result of LNO, so I don't feel bad.
We have revamped much of CCAE as of late, and have made significant changes to the site.
We now have:
* User logins
These are very limited right now, but they are there and in place and stuff.
* Revamped submission pages
Much more friendly, and they will take advantage of the user logins, so you don't have as much info to enter. Plus, you can now UPLOAD your examples, as well as copy/paste... (^= ::yea!!::
* Revamped feedback page
A little prettier to look at, plus takes advantage of user logins.
* A new help desk/guide!
General info about the site... plus, many of hte scripts items have little ?'s by them that will show relevant help information.
Thank you for the pimpage. We love you. We come from france.

Oh, in case you aren't familiar with it, the site is http://www.codeexamples.org

Maybe it's just me, but the colorized Python examples seem to lose their linebreaks in Opera.

Yes. Install Mozilla, there is no displaying problem with it.

What version of opera? It seems okay in opera 6 on windows. Opera 5 had troubles though.

I'm using Opera 5 on windows.
It's not really that big of a deal since the noncolored versions work fine, but I figured you guys should at least know.
Guess it's time for a brower upgrade. :)

There has been a problem with Opera 5 for some time.. I am pretty sure that it's not a html problem from our end, since in Opera 6, it works fine. I think that they just had some funky problem with the <pre> tags. It appears to work fine in 6.
Besides, 6 is nice.. I really like it.

TLD said it... Opera 6 is awesome, IMO.

Did I miss something, or is the requested/working projects section gone?

We rearranged the menu, so you prolly overlooked it.. (^= it's right underneath the 'code examples' and above 'what do you think'.

You had much time to look at that perl book?
I wanted to mention that now anytime someone who is logged in submits an example, it goes directly into the database, therefore no more waiting for our lazy bums to chexor it out and put it in. Currently you still can't edit your own files that are already up there, but I think you can expect that in the near future.
Also, TheLinuxDuck has been hard at work making our site much cooler; so expect to see some cool things coming up!
Btw, I want to thank TheLinuxDuck very much for all his hard work with the site recently, and throughout it's short history. Most of the codebase camee from the fingertips of TLD, and he's done a great job making the site nice; he's also doing all the admin stuff on the server. He'll be all humble and say "it's a joint effort"; and he's right, but the fact is that he's put alot of work into it. I want to thank him for that since my lazy *** would never have gotten it anywhere near this far.

w00t. Luckily, TLD saw fit to make not make a liar out of me.
Logged in users may now add comments to examples. Try it. Play with it. Test it. If something breaks let us know. :) The 'e' and 'd' are for edit/delete. And just clicking 'd' deletes your comment so be careful. br, i, and b tags are allowed (html), but not links right now... even though I'm trying to convince him that you guys won't be jerks and post pr0n links :).

Haven't had a lot of time, but I have sorta looked it over. It's kinda cool - actually discusses CS kinda concepts in Perl, which is, IMO, too often overlooked. Any program, in any language (ok, maybe not VB), can be improved on by utilizing known patterns (whether common to all programs/algorithms, or to a specific language). My (limited) experience with Perl led me to believe that no one coding in Perl gave a rat's rear-end about good coding practices...until now! ;)

Interesting idea ... maybe someone should start a CodeWiki so that people wouldn't even have to register to add code snippets, and anyone could fix anyone else's code snippets. Whaddaya think?

No offense, but I don't like that at all.. letting almost anyone edit anyone else's code.... that brings up painful memories, and I've never even done anything like that.. (^= Sorry dood.. I just think it's a bad idea.
And, anyone can post code.. you don't have to log in to post.. but, it's posted anonymously, it doesn't get added directly to the database, and only the admins can edit it.
Btw, what exactly is a CodeWiki?

After some thought.. I still think it's a bad idea to let anyone edit anyone else's code.. but.. maybe we could set up a switch in the users preferences page that lets them set whether anyone else can edit their code or not.. doubt it will be any time soon, if we add it, but I think it's a decent compromise. I can imagine each person who submitted code thinking "Well, there's no reason for anyone else to modify MY CODE. After all My Code (tm) is perfect!" ;)

I don't think he was implying that we should do that with CCAE; I think he meant setting up a different site.
I think it's a good idea for an experiment, but it's open to the "moron factor" when you let anyone change anything on the site. Just takes one angry or stupid jerk to ruin the whole site.

Well, I won't say this about the CCAE code, but some code I've seen from fellow students at my school is HIDEOUS. I mean, someone who has, at least theoretically, passed a C programming course using fors for whiles, and not understanding relatively simple comments as to why the code was a total P.O.S.!!! I wouldn't want THEM editing my code! OTOH, mine ain't perfect - so what I'd say, is leave the commenting methods intact, so that if the author receives good advice on fixing the code, he/she can make the changes (and hopefully learn from the process!).

Yeah, I wasn't saying the CCAE should do it, just that it'd be interesting. And Wiki's are surprisingly "stable" (ie, not covered with meaningless content) because of the community around them and the relative lack of "prestige" gained by defacing them.

And it'd be pretty easy to set up. :) Forgot to mention that. Maintenance time for the "owner" = none
I think it would make for a fine experiment, though I must admit that were I to write something up, I'd feel kind of obliged to post it at CCAE. Guess I could dual post it, though.

TLD, nice site, my only complaint is that the colors are god awful.
