Ada is a computer language, with OO functionality (though I believe the OO stuff was added, similar to C/C++). I know nothing about it, but I'd be willing to bet that there is a compiler for Ada on Linux (perhaps even a gcc backend?).

Ada was a language designed by government commitee for government projects. when the language was created, the compiler was so goddamn bulky (this is around 1980 or so) that it really didn't get off the ground with anyone except the government.
it is still used by the DoD for various things; i interviewed for a job doing ada, and my school taught it for a while. the language has VERY strict data typing and referencing making it very robust, just the kind of thing bureacrats like, and hackers (as in programmers, not script kiddies) really don't like (unless it's someone else's code they are trying to read :D) IMO.
try searching for some answers as well (http://www.google.com/search?q=ada+language+history).
