I have OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 installed, with two hard drives at my disposal. I have my working setup on one HD, and a testing setup on the second HD. I have set up a partition strictly for the purpose of storing backups using PerfectBACKUP 7.0. Yesterday, I made a full backup of my working partition, excluding things like browser cache, tmp, proc, etc.
Today, I was unable to boot into either of my Linux partitions: failed file system check. I was booted into single user mode. I tried fsck and e2fsck; both failed to fix the problem. PerfectBACKUP documentation mentions backing up to a raw partition on the hard drive, but doesn't elaborate beyond that point.
I fixed the problem by booting into Windows and running Partition Magic to delete and recreate the ext2 partition (losing the backup). Formating the partition seems to be the problem. It is set up as ext2 and subject to fsck on startup. The backup which I placed there failed the filesystem check.
I've spent the last hour searching for information on raw partitions, and not finding much. Question: how do I set up a raw partition to store the backup, and not run afoul of fsck on startup?
