I've never done PHP before. I always thought it would be good to learn. I even agreed to do a major school project in it... so tonight, I go to look at it some, and I almost died of horror! It looks just like perl! Ew ew ew ew ew! Please, somebody console me and tell me it's not just like perl! Pleeeease!

Well, it's not JUST like Perl - more like the hybrid child of perl and C with just enough language support to try and pass itself off as object-oriented (though it lacks encapsulation, which violates at LEAST one OO principle).

you about, really, because I hate Perl, and it's even worse than Perl :)

what are you trying to accomplish?

And don't worry about php

Think of php as a cute happy easy to learn language like asp...but it kicks asp in the balls and has bigger muscles and gets all the chicks.

Php isn't a brain surgeon in an affluent community like perl, the highest level of lifestyles, but it's not a deralic in a trailer like asp, the lowest level. It's comfortably in the middle, closer to perl, happy and cool as pie, without a care in the world (Or god damn chmod and 'internal server errors which do a perl newbie like me NO good as I sit on my thumb with a dumb look on my face)

How's that, as an explanation of php? Now take a deep breath and tell us what you want to do, you might have an easy time with it :)
