list of devices and/or linux programming cheat sheet?

does anyone know of any lists or howtos that tell someone what devs to output something to?

example. if i wanted to send sound through the speakers at a certain point in a program...where would i send the sound to?

im not trying to do that..but it sounded like a good example.

anyway...they would be much appreciated.

one more thing...i would also like some docs on operating system programming. i would like to learn more about the process of creating an OS...

In answer to your first question, I don't think so, unfortunetely. I just kinda learnt everything just from reading the documentation out there, but that's not a bad idea.

In answer to your second question, there is a great book out, but I can't remember the name of it right now. In fact my University uses it as its textbook for the operating systems course here. When I get off break, I will come back here and post the name of the book.
