i've talked about this on IRC a bit, but i would like everybody's input/reactions...

i found out that a JC near where we live offers a certificate program that focuses entirely on programming. it covers C(++), Java, CGI (using perl), and some MF stuff as well. it'll take about 18 months to complete, but i'm thinking this will help me move more in the programming direction career-wise. that, and maybe the sun java cert (much later on).

i plan on focusing on java and c++ once i start the classes (this fall). i'm thinking that learning as much python as i can beforehand will help me in learning the actual concepts and all i'll need to do is learn more of the language specific stuff.

so whadaya think??

Go for it if you can, unless there are some negative aspects about it...

I think everyone should approach programming this way :) (not necessarily with Python, but with core concepts first, language specifics as needed)
