who does assembly? with luck, i will be going through some good training (class, plus hopefully a week mano et mano with a really experienced programmer/teacher) soon in assembly (ibm mainframe is all i know for sure about it, always referred to around here as ALC). do you have any opinions on it's usefullness in terms of getting jobs, applying the skills to other jobs/languages, and simply opinions on using it?
it'll be a very good opportunity for me, because i'd basically have work for life with the IRS and other companies. also i tend to agree with my boss in that if you really learn assembly and know it, understanding other languages and systems is easier, and your understanding will be much more thorough.
