Hello !
I just completed my third year in BSc Comp Sci in New Zealand and was hoping to gain some work experience in the US rather than work in NZ or Australia.
How realistic is it in your opinion ?
I have been usin Java, JSP, Servlets, HTML, C++, some C, some Python, Flash, Ultradev, etc...
for the last three years.
I was keen on the idea to work for a Linux company, but it's Java I like to work with so
yeah chekk mate http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
thanks for your opinions, advice ?

Union Bank of California is desparate for Java programmers. In fact, a LOT of companies in southern California are looking for Java programmers and can't find them. There are lots of programmers here, but they all have jobs.
Coming right out of school you may have a slightly more difficult time. But after 3 or 4 years of experience you can have people calling you every other week offering you jobs.
When you think you're ready to come to the states let me know and I'll put you in touch with a couple of recruiters that I know. They've been asking me if I know of anyone who codes in Java. They have lots of jobs that they absolutly cannot fill.
However, if you're here on an H1-B visa it could be a problem. Lot's of companies don't want to deal with H1-B's.
Still, let us know when you're ready to come over.

Thanks Dru !
I am ready all right http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
Learning more about Swing on my own, but it's spring here in New Zealand and Uni is over.
The problem is that here they usually give you some boring job, and I really want to become a Java expert. I have been using it for 3 years but at Uni only. So I need work experience. I can't afford wasting time with web development or database maintenance type jobs.
I have implemented a filesystem in Java as my last project and I got an A for it, so I am not a total newbie either to Java.
However I will look for a Java job here in New Zealand then or in Aussie since I can work there just like here, no problem.
Thanks anyway, I will still try to get a job in the US anyway, I don't usually give up that easy http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
