Hi guys!

A new newbie here... Heh, heh...

Been playing with Mandrake Linux for a few weeks now. Mostly I have been doing a lot of installs (screw something up, format, reinstall), but its all good and all part of the learning curve.

My current problem is this:

On shutdown my system reports 'unmounting NFS filesystems [FAILED]' and then the system hangs there until I power off or reset the machine.

An examination of my logs show the following entries:

umount: Cannot MOUNTPROG RPC: RPC: Program not registered
umount: umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: umount: /net: device is busy
netfs: Unmounting NFS filesystems: failed

I am a smart boy (my mommy says so), if anyone can point me in the right direction hopefully I can get past this. Its happening on both my systems right after a clean install. I must be installing a package that I hadn't installed previously since the error is a new annoyance.

BTW, Kudos to the Linux community. I have been a Microsoft pawn for the last 10+ years (I am MCSE and MCP+I certified) and am amazed at how nice Mandrake 8.2 is! :D

What is on the /net mount ?
Just shared files, or is a daemon running from or writing to /net ?

Can you manually unmount it when the system is running ?

Can you unmount it with a umount -f /net
