OK... I actually got @Home to work on my new Mandrake 7.2 install without posting here first... sort of.
The problem I'm having is that every time I start the computer, I have to go through hoops to get the machine to see the network.
On startup, I get a fail on eth0

once I've gone into my session, I run linuxconf and verify my settings:
Host Name + Domain: Cxxxx-x.[cityID].[state].home.com

Primary Name + Domain: same as above
IP Address: in, no dhcp (although I should probably use that...?)

Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Net Device: eth0
Kernel module: tulip (it's a LinkSys LNE100TX)
I/O port: A800
IRQ: 05 (both these settings have been verified on my BIOS and on WIN2K)

Once I OK this, I check DNS, etc. and all is well. When I exit linuxconf it reloads eth0 no problem.

Still no connection.

Then I go through drakconf & try to reconfigure networking, it says no card... so i through hardDrake & verify the card settings again, go BACK into Networking & set up cable connection (same parameters as above, no dhcp) and then set up local networking, simply verifying all the information is there. Once I've done this last part, it asks if I want to restart the network, OK. THEN and only then do I get out into the great big world.

If anyone has any ideas on what I should change, I would greatly appreciate the help. I'm a Linux user for a grand total of 48 hours now, so I suspect I'm just doing something dumb. Thanks!

I'm having a similar problem.

My eth0 doesn't work all the times .. seems to be random ...

I have a F=MA (DEC based). It tried the tulib module by default, nothing would work.

I tried the old_tulip module, and things were a bit better.

I can not get DHCP to work AT ALL !

and hard coding the parameters seems to only work randomly ...

I tried Linuxconf, DrakConf, no changes .

That, and a lot of other problems, are leaving me with a not-so-good impression of Mandrake 7.2.

Jatfil:

Check /etc/resolv.conf to be sure the entries are correct for nameservers and domain.

You do NOT want to use DHCP unless that's what @home is using in your area. Most @home suscribers I know have a static IP.

Be CERTAIN the NIC is configured properly--especially if it's an ISA PnP. Also disable PnP in the BIOS.

Consider a different NIC than the Linksys. Do a search here and you'll find many folks having problems with that card.

If you can afford another NIC try the Netgear FA 310TX...but not the 311 or 312.

Coutch...if you are having dhcp problems see the reply I just posted in General to someone having connection problems. Mine is reply #22.

Good Luck
