strange dialup problem after upgrading to Red Hat 7.0

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this. I had Red Hat 6.2 installed. I chose to upgrade my current system and things went smoothly. Everything seemed to work correctly until I dialed into my ISP. The dialin process itself was fine...no problems there. The problem arose when I would disconnect from my ISP. I generally dial in with the /sbin/ifup ppp0 command in an xterm. To disconnect I issue the /sbin/ifdown ppp0 command. The connection would drop and then 20 seconds later it would pick up and dial back in again. I couldn't get it to stop!!! Any help would be appreciated.

Fire up linuxconf, go down to the ppp section, then look at your ppp0 setup. IIRC, there is a checkbox labeled "Reconnect on broken connection" or something like that - clear that option, and it will help. (I did the same thing once. I disconnected from the 'Net, then started compiling Qt - and then every few minutes the system would dial in on its own, and I couldn't stop it, 'cuz I was compiling in the foreground in CLI mode!)

well I did a lil digging and actually figured this out on my own. To fix this...open /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 in your editor. At the very top...you will see this line:
Persistant=yes

I changed that to no and it stopped dialling in after I would disconnect.
