i have apache running my site now ( http://optech.homeip.net ) and now i want a new project.

I want to set up a mail server for my network. but where to begin?

as i don't know much about email, (except words and names like pop3, snmp, fetchmail...)
and i want to know a good place to begin.

perhaps a good tutorial on how to set up a working email server?
anything will do, just give me a good starting point

Install Exim. Debian has an installation script that asks you questions and sets it up for you. Other distros might not. After installing it, read the configuration file and set the options as needed.

Yeah, you just need to install a mail server. Exim is easy to use, in my opinion. http://www.exim.org, I believe. They should have documentation on their site.
