Linux as server for ms/ mac machines

Hello! My question is this: What do I need to run MS and Mac machines off a Linux server? Linux is more reliable and I want to store back-ups for all 3 machines on the Linux machine. Is this easier said than done?? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Are you asking about file and print sharing or running Windows/Mac applications from a Linux server?

File and print sharing use Samba of which you can find loads of documentation etc. on the web. www.samba.org (http://www.samba.org) to start.

To run a application server, you would need something like Tarantella. www.tarantella.com (http://www.tarantella.com)
