geting onto the LAN with Red Hat

I finnaly got a linux box working at school but I can't figure out how to set it up so i can access the network. What do i do to configure it.

what kind of network card do you have?
during the installation, did it ask/say anything about your network/network card?
was the box plugged into the LAN during the install?

I think I have a D-Link NIC but the admin said a couple on those boxes have been replaced. No it did not ask anything about it and yes it was plugged in

"cat /proc/pci" should give you the name and model of your NIC, assuming it's PCI.
