We (my family) finally ordered broadband. Unfortunatly they installed when i was at school but i got some interesting info:
i tried to use the cable it wouldn't work because the modem lights were still blinking. This is a SB3100 they give out different modems. I tried the usual no luck so i tried http://IP.OF.MODEM the modem was 192.168.100.1 in my case could be different.
Here there were logs and all the fun stuff. I looked through and found the problem the HFC ip and dhcp server were 0.0.0.0, aka not set. So i called the techsupport heres how they authorize the cable is the MAC address of the modem. they mistyped mine so now they have to replace it because of some paper work stuff.

(oh also rlogin is filtered on them, hmmm)
