Hello, I am trying to connect using Mandrake 8.1 on my notebook to a network that has a Proxy on it and uses DHCP.. Ok, After bootup I hear another beep and Boom,, there's the DHCP address assigned to my notebook. However, when I try to open NETSCAPE all I receive is an error that the name could not be found.. But I can go JUST to the Sprint.com websites, Nowhere else...
I know the net connection is good because I can ping and traceroute a workstation next to me. The proxy is www.proxy.corp.sprint.com/proxy.pac (http://www.proxy.corp.sprint.com/proxy.pac) which is what I stuck into the proxy address dialog box in Netscape and I am using Port 8080 and tried 3128 but same thing.. In the resolv.conf there is the DNS addresses and kc.sprint.com as the dns server. The host.conf and host file look fine. What else can I try??
Thanks for any info

Instead of using the name "kc.sprint.com" for the DNS use the IP address, if you know it. I just tried a DNS lookup for kc.sprint.com and a "host not found" error is what I got. Is this the correct name for the DNS server? You can temporarly use 24.216.110.8 for the DNS. It's my former ISP's DNS server, which I still use.

I tried the IP addresses that were in the resolv.conf file which are 144.229.81.71 & 144.229.84.184.. The kc.sprint.com is what was in the resolv.conf file.. I even tried that proxy address there but did'nt work. About time to go home so I'll try the address you sent. I was able to use KDE Konquer ( I forgot how it's spelled ) and I could go to any site within Sprint.com.. Even when I typed in like msn.com I was directed to Sprints home page.. So I know it's name resolution... But in Netscape, I could not go anywhere, as to where the other night I could go to Sprint.com websites..
Thanks for the input
