smbclient -L localhost results in failure

I'm trying to get Samba 2.0.5a on RH 6.1 P200 with 128MB RAM. Whenever I do a "smbclient -L localhost" I get the following message: "read_socket_with_timeout: timeout read. read error = Broken pipe.
session request to LOCALHOST failed...
session request to *SMBSERVER failed."

Any ideas? I'm stumped :confused:

How are you launching samba... I got this error once. It seems to be related to launching samba via inetd.conf
