Okay, I'm stuck on a 56K connection and I'm hating it. I just got a really good offer for a pretty expensive 3Com External ISDN modem. I know almost nothing about how ISDN works, and I'm trying to decide if I can even use it before I actually make the trade for it. Now here's my question, if I want to dial-up in a single ISDN connection, and I already have an ISDN-capable account setup at my ISP, can I connect using my regular phone-line just like a 56K modem, or is there a special data line that has to be installed from my phone company?

Hi there!
The phone-line itself won`t be changed however the phone-company needs to have digital-switches at their hub.
Further you need to have a digital switch at your home (usually provided by the phone-company = $$$ !).
btw
IMHO it`s not worth the expenses and troubles
I used to stay at a friends place who`s got
ISDN.
With M$ ,yes there`s visible speed-difference
With Linux , hardly.
When we used 2 ISDN for one connection(128K)
there`s was some improvement ,of course.

I can remember the days when I ran an ISP off of 2 ISDN channels and it supported almost 70 users. Those were the good ol' days.
Sorry for the digression; ISDN sucks and as the other guy stated not worth the cost and are usually limited on usage.

Well, I was at least planning on maybe getting the ISDN modem and re-selling it (because I'm getting it for almost nothing, and according to the guy, it's worth over $200.00). I can't find any info about it, not even on 3com's website. It's a 3com external Impact IQ, and it can connect at speeds up to 230Kbps. Would this be worth trading some old crap for (ld computer parts that the guy needs), to re-sell on Ebay or something? How much would I probably get for it?
