Hello, I am trying to connect to the net at my work through a proxy server with Netscape 6.1. I configured my pcmcia card for DHCP. After booting up I can use ifconfig and see that an IP addres was assigned and I can ping and traceroute a nearby host.. In the preferences tab, I added the proxy servers address and port 80. The only site I can connect to is the cpmapnys site. Using DHCP do I need to manually set up DNS and a Gateway? Also trying to use Mandrake control center to configure the pcmcia card, it ask for the CD's but upon trying to install the software, I receive a message the Install failed...
Thanks for any input..

You set port 80 for the proxy, right? Mostly a (http, ftp, etc) proxy runs with port 8080 or 3128. Maybe this is your problem...

Yep I did use port 80. I'll try again this evening with port 8080. But using DHCP, I should not have to set up DNS, or default gateway.? Thanks for the reply..

If you get this informations over DHCP, no... . For services you can use the proxy, you don't need the Gateway anway.

Ok,
I tried port 8080 and 3128 and the same thing. I looked at the resolv.conf and the dhcp address is there along with the host name of the DNS server. The proxie's name is www.proxy.corp.sprint.com/proxy.pac (http://www.proxy.corp.sprint.com/proxy.pac) and in the resolv.conf there's just kc.sprint.com. I checked the hosts.conf and etc and they seem ok. A few seconds after booting into KDE I hear an additional beep and Bingo there's the dhcp address assigned to me. I think everything is configured ok but ??? There's suppose to be a desktop PC tech there this evening but he probably just knows Micro****.
If you have any other ideas i'd appreciate it.
Thanks again,,
