Greetings,

My Surfboard's DHCP uses the address scheme: 24.37.277.1 . As you may imagine DHCPD(client) is totally freaked out by this and won't work. Win2k does(go figure) Ifconfig won't configure with a valid static IP (of course). Any one know of a work around? posibly a hack (2.4.3-20) to make my kernel to not observe standards, heh. Alias is no go too.
Thank you in advance,
Jonathan

you know, not to sound like an ***, but this isnt possible.

the IP protocal does not allow for ip's outside of 0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255

try to find out as much info (give up as much info) as you can about this.

btw, the TCP/IP stack in Windows 2000 is identical to the stack in Linux, they both use the Berkeley designed TCP/IP stack.

Well, swede, I see your apprehension. I built clusters for my physics research... I know the whole deal on the stack. I only posted this in LNO because year or so ago I saw you, sensei, and a couple other cats answering newbies with that volunteer spirit(BFYI) i am not a new bie. I called them andthey said its just the way my modem came. Now that was a green 1st teir tech, but If you if know that they can locally alsias? If you know of a governing body I can complain to, please advise. I dont like my S$%^T to be non-standard. I am just like that. I dont want a walk through, just a pointer in the right direction of the right buttons to push(e.g. gov body). Non-standard must be illleagal, but how do you get past first teir of providers tech support. I will cut and paste my ipconfig from win2k. I know berkley stack enough to know that I didn't belive it when I saw it. You will will just have to trust that I know enough to be apprehensive too.
This is only to qualify previous statement:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.9

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : mktn1.fl.home.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 24.37.227.X (X only to hide my last digit)

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 24.37.227.1

I know, I know... If you don't think this is real, well damn... learn more.. I don't necessarily want you to give me cmd line to fix it... I just know I am being screwed.
regards,
Jonathan T.
P.s. You are not an ***, I would have said the same thing.
