This is something that I have been thinking about for a while now. I have read most of the linux networking admin book, plus several others, trying to find some info on this. This is all hypothetical, but some good info if I could find it. Lets say I have a 10 puter network all running redhat 6.1 for the sake of argument. Where could I find the info to set them up so that one central computer would do all login authentication and setup permissions for that person on whatever computer that login at?

The answer to my own question, it would seem, is located in the NIS howto. I havent tried it yet, or heard anything else either way. If anyone has any personal experience, please let me know. :D

I was thinking about the same thing, just a bit different in the setup. I would want my linux box to authenticate all the other window puters that are on the network. question is i don't know how that could be done.
i was thinking maybe samba could do 'some' authentication, especially for file sharing (that's what its for anyways!). i could have sworn i've read a section on samba taht you can make it execute *.bat files for window puters. I'm not sure how that would work on an all linux based network.

just a thought.

have a nice day :)

Yeah, you put the bat files in a login folder and point the login scripts to that folder. Pretty sure thats how it works. I wanted to know if it could be done on an all linux network.
