i'm following the how to install samba nhf, which worked perfectly for me on another machine, but now i'm getting problems. I've downloaded and compiled samba and everything, and now i am at the point where i should be able to 'surf' to http://mycomp:901
That doesn't work... I thought i t could be a mozilla problem, that it doesn't understand the :901, and used lynx. That one said: Couldn't connect to foreign host.
Then I did a telnet to port 901.
I got the usual
Trying someip
escape character is [
...
and then it said just after it had connected:
Connection closed by foreign host.
I thought it could be a problem with my hosts.deny.
There only ALL:ALL in there, as the nhf states.
Then in my hosts.allow there are some commentaries that SuSE put there, and the line
swat: 127.0.0.1 192.9.200.
just like the nhf said, here again.
i restarted inetd, but the problem persists.
If i was in windows, i'd say 'reboot', but i'm not in windows, and i don't want to reboot, as i want to set a new personal record on 24/7 running seti@home... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
Ok, so do you have any ideas on this?

I found the problem...
In inetd.conf the path to swat was wrong. I think this is because they have changed the place where they put the samba stuff in the version 2.0.7, and that nhf was referring to 2.0.6.
