Need some extra help now.
I have a Windoze's 98se machine as my Wingate server. I have 4 other 98 machines and one Linux Mandrake 7.2 machine. All the Windoze'a machine work great through wingate. My Linux box works somewhat well. I can use Netscape and browse the web and i can send mail out and i can use irc. My problem is when using netscape and trying to ftp a file downward it fails saying port is closed for security reasons. When using Kmail i can not recieve any messages and finally when using irc i cannot do any DCC chats or file sends or receives.
I am using Wingate 4.02 pro. They said there was support for linux and since i can browse the web they are telling some of the truth but not the whole truth. Can anyone help me out with this problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes I know and I will use the linux box as the server but that will only happen when i get a little more into Linux.

My recommendation is screw Wingate and use your Linux box to do the job in a much better fashion and for free.

But... configuring Linux isn't as easy as configuring Windows. Linux gives you more control and more power but it comes at the cost of things being more dificult. Sure there a ton of X applets that allow to configure some parts of networking, but if you want things to work good and right all the time you need to get down to the dirty stuff. It seems that you are having problems with UDP packets. I would check out the "route" command and see how that is configured. Are you using the Wingate as a gateway or something? Those are my ideas.
