I have been reading about Tripwire and Snort for past couple of days. I was wondering if anyone could possibly point me in the proper direction. I'm looking for a program that is easy to set-up that will notify me when pesty little hacks is scanning my ports? Are there other programs other than I have mentioned that would better suite me?
By the way how would I turn off echo (or ICMP) on my server. Basicaly, I do not want people to be able to ping me.
I can get portsentry
example commenad portsentry -atcp and portsentry -audp will do this but will need edit portsentry.con before starting.
Regards,
Alex :)

I just saved this url from here yesterday that someone had posted. Looks promising.
Big Brother Network Monitor (http://www.bb4.com/)
The Unix/Linux version is free. Others are not.

I used:
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=000413
Connect the null modem cable and open a terminal connection in windows (yea yea I know)and turn on the logging. You don't have to login. Now I have a off machine copy of the logs.
Thanks Craig & VRay
Ps: Craig, if you still want a couple of dumb
terminals I have a few of them. You pay shipping they're yours.
