I use RH7.1~3 for a firewall/ICS box. It works great it’s only been booted 3 times in a year. My problem seems to be with RoadRunner. Every time I have had to reboot it’s been HELL getting an IP address from the cable modem. I do a ifup eth0 and it hangs for 3 mins and fails. It seems like I have to power cycle the modem and then, just at the right time in the modem’s boot process hit the ifup command. It takes 3 or 4 tries to get it to work. Is there a better way?

That seem to be fairly normal with cable modems and linux. If I loose the IP I will usually initiate the command then while its thinking reboot the modem.

If I reboot remotely i loose contact. There must be a way to get RR to behave.

What's RR and what does the ifup command do? I tried it on my machine, and I am connected to a cable, but haven't had too much problem. I went in to netconfig and enabled dhcp, and that's about all I did...
