I connect to the I-net through a lan. This is the case :

There is one machine, the server ( I live downstairs, it`s the guy I rent from who set this up ) which runs on winXP, and has a 1mb ADSL connection.
He has shared this connection, but hasn`t got DHCP. I set up my Slackware 8.1 to a static ip 192.168.0.13, while the server runs 192.168.0.1. I use .0.1 as both a gateway and a nameserver, and yes I do get online. I can ping anything, and I can log onto irc and view webpages. The thing is .. they use an incredibly long time to show.
Some pages kan take minutes before they either time-out or come through. Some pages ( mainly .no ) come up instantly, while other don't come up at all. Linuxnewbie beeing one of those pages ( pasting this from work )
I wonder what could be wrong here ?
Is there something I have to change in the network setup in Slackware, or is it a hardware problem, or perhaps it`s the guy upstairs who has some fixing to do ?
( btw .. he hasn`t set up dns server .. does that have anything to say ? )

Hope you can help .. reaaaally frustrating this whole deal. Neither of us can figure out what`s wrong.

Try setting your DNS on the slackware machine to the DNS provided by the ISP.

I don't know if that will help, but it could.

Nope no such luck..
Set the DNS as it should be but it didn't o any faster.
Starting to think there might be a hardware problem

Have you tried using a different RJ-45 cable?
