I have an ADSL modem connected to my Mandrake 7.2 box. After installing Mandrake everything was working fine. The ADSL modem gave me a hostname something like: "tamqfl1-ar3-168-55.dsl.gtei.net".
After about a week sendmail started giving me a message that hostname "tamqfl1-ar3-168-55" is not a fully qualified name (I guess because ".dsl.gtei.net" disappeared). At this point my hostname shrunk to tamqfl1-ar3-168-55 and my samba server stopped working as well but was able to access the Internet otherwise.
After a lot of failed attempts to fix sendmail I reinstalled Mandrake from scratch. I got my hostname back as "tamqfl1-ar3-168-55.dsl.gtei.net" and sendmail and samba was happy. After a while the same thing happend to my host name, sendmail and samba.
Any ideas what might be going on here? I don't want to reinstall the operating system every week. I suspect my DHCP client is messing up, but have no idea how to fix it.

Thanks for any help.
