i have a fixed IP, a domain. but i have no idea how to host the domain to the IP, step by step instruction is prefered, thanx in advance for help !!!! really appreciate

your about to enter DNS hell. I'm already there. You need to get your fixed IP resolved to your domain name, and reverse look-up if you've got an ftp server. You also need an MX entry if you want to set up mail for user@yourdomain.com

The Simple way:
Make someone else do it for you. See if your ISP will add an SOA file and an entry in their /etc/named.conf file. Maybe they will, maybe they'll blow you off.

Complex way:
Do it locally. You need info. see http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO.html to see what you're about to step in to.

I've got a friends server with DNS set-up to resolve mine, but I should be the "authoritative" server doing it.
I'm trying to do it on Mandrake 7.2 with limited success so far. I'll give you the gory details when I get it working.

www.granitecanyon.com (http://www.granitecanyon.com) offers free dns service and also has a pretty helpful maillist. i used to figure out how to write an soa for to point smtp,ftp, http requests for my domain to my ip. good luck

yeah, the free DNS is what i looking for actually, but i need further help to configure SOA,
my domain : 21net-e.com
my email : vampire_47@mailcity.com

i want 21net-e.com host to 208.231.12.33
& ftp.21net-e.com host to 208.231.12.34

please help me write the SOA

not that the guys here wouldn't be able to help you im sure (please dont take offense you guys) but if you get on www.granitecanyon.com (http://www.granitecanyon.com) mail list, you may get it completely done faster. useing thier help, it took about 3-4 post to iron out the final items
