I use an old Pentium 133 running Win98SE with ICS to connect my gf's(Win2k) and my(MDK7.2) computers to our DSL modem. Everything's great, but everynow and again, our connection is dropped by the mid computer (or whatever), and to get back online, we just reboot the mid computer (2x, for some reason ICS starts every other reboot...?). Anyway, last night we lost the connection. Period. Many reboots and fiddling with the Windows settings did not get us back online. So, being bored, and wanting to have tried this now for a while, I Partition Magic'd the huge 1G hardrive on the middle machine, and got a MDK72 server install squeezed in next to the Win partition. Using whatever that tool is in DrakConf, I 'succeeded' in getting a non PPPoe(sp?) connection to Bellsouth's server. The actual 'sharing' part of it's not really working very well, tho. Well, not at all actually. I can ping the mid puter (192.168.0.254 - that's what I put when it asked for an IP adrs - should I put DHCP for the internal instead?) from both of our computer, but when I nmap it, nothing is open. But like I said, actually using the middle computer, I can browse and ftp and whatever, so it's reaching Bellsouth just fine... Any such thing as a 'guick fix' for this? I'd like to get rid of that lil ol Win98/ICS partition as soon as I can (how ssa is that? Windows acting as a router for a Linux box...? *wink*)...

TIA

one way (from a newbie perspective, the gurus will jump in here quick enough with the expert way) would be to setup squid (proxy server) which i assume comes with the mandrake server install you did, then just set the browsers on the w2k and your other linux box to hit the proxy ip & port
