I have two computers, one windows one Linux with M7.2 both have winmodems. So I had the bright idea of connecting the Linux machine to the windows via erthernet. Unfortunatly I have to use the windows machine as the host, because of the software. I have spent the last 5 or 6 hours tring to get the Linux machine set up to "talk" to the windows machine. I just don't understand all this IP stuff. Once I do get it set up, how do access the windows computer from the Linux. I have only used Linux for about a month. I need real simple terms. Thanks for any help.

You need to add/change the gateway ip address in Linux to point to the ip address of ICS or whatever software you use on your windows box. There are commands to do this in Linux, but I cannot think of them right off. Just what I've read from other posts. My configuration for ETHERNET is done during the Linux installation and I never have to manually setup anything.
Some of the commands are 'route add ...'. Maybe search around this forum or 'General' for posts similar to yours.
Not a Mandrake user, but have heard of drakconf. Can this utility setup the gateway address etc.?
Sorry I couldn't be more help, but hope I got you started.

So far. I don't know how to get windoze ipforwarding, maybe if you just want internet you could use a sipmple proxy like sambar. Look at www.sambar.com. (http://www.sambar.com.) If you want ipforwarding...2000 and 98se may have this feature, but i don't know.
Excuse my bad english, i hope you understood. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
