has anyone gotten a D-LINK DFE-530TX with SYMPATICO HIGH SPEED EDITION to work under linux? (redhat... or any other destr.)

if so, could you please specify what steps you took to identify the card and to dial up?

I tried many times and I am pretty new to linux so I couldn't figure it out... Thanks in advance http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

The DFE-530TX uses the via-rhine module. You need to install the mod using the command insmod via-rhine.o After this you need to check and make sure the module was loaded by typing the command lsmod.

Ahh I didn't see that it was a dial-up you were tying to setup. Sorry :-(

I beleive that you need to read up on PPPoE:
try http://www.suse.de/~bk/PPPoE-project.html and
http://www.openhere.com/tech1/software/operating-systems/linux/hardware-support/dsl/
andhttp://sympaticousers.org/menu/default.asp and finally, http://sympaticousers.org/links/linux.htm
which will probably be the best resource.

Sorry but I have a cable modem so I can't help you much further.

Good luck, fellow Canuk

I had similar problems last week (uhmm dialup??? its an ethernet adapter) and got tremendous help from reading this link http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000371.html and by listening to mdwatts and Muzzafarath.
My orignal post is here: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004100.html
