I installed the prperly binaries for an ftp server but when I try running the process wu.ftpd and then when I chekc the ps then deamon dies w/out an error I even have done wu.ftpd& to get a pid number once I do it just returns w/ an exist number of 1.
what do I have to do it get it to work?
I check setup and the wu.ftpd service is setup to run in rc.d/init.d/ and I added wu.ftpd in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local/ file. w/and w/out the full path
thanx for any input

sorry to avoid answering your question, but i wouldnt run wuftpd for the mere fact that there have been numerous vulnerabilities and security holes found in it...
proftpd, in my opinion, is more secure, with exception to the lastest ls */../*/../*/../*/../*/../ bug, (which doesnt spawn a root shell)and is far more configurable than wuftpd. proftpd uses a configuration file which reads directives much like the httpd.conf file for apache.
check it out sometime: http://www.proftpd.net

I got it working. a small thing I overlooked.
cough:: DHCP:: cough. though my ip hasn't changed in 7 months considering how may times I rebooted the box.
the server is private and I see the ppl who have access to it so if they use the bugs in it to their advantage (which I can't see y considering they have root passwd anyway) if they do I physicaly make them regret it and then have them install that ftp serivce pack u recommend.
thanx 4 the info
