Hi,

I have set up SAMBA using webmin (great tool!). When I start the daemons, my system says [OK] for both the samba services.
However, if I then do a ps -ef, I can only see nmbd running and not smbd.

I checked the log.snmb, but it is completely empty. Which log file can I also check to find out what is happening when snmb is started?

Stop samba, look in samba's lock (varies with different installs) dir for a file with ..LCK and delete it. Then restart samba.

mine is :

/var/lock/samba/STATUS..LCK

Thanks for that.
While trying to find the LCK file I noticed that the trial version of vmware that I installed (and for which I wanted to use samba for in the first place) has also installed samba.
I suppose the two installs don't like each other :(

I will try to find out if I can configure the vmware samba to do what I want.
