Lost network

Hi,

I have RH7.2 installed.
Every once in a while all of my network connections are lost, as far as I can see now as soon as the screen blanks when I'm not using the system for a while.
When this happened I tried to do a 'network restart', but that does not work. Therefore I then have to reboot my system to get back online (I have cable, so connected via ethernet).

2 questions;
1 How can I figure out what the problem is. Any hints as to what log files or commands I can use to see what the problem is?
2 Are there any other ways to restart the network connection, for instance kick the network card (I haven't got a clue :( ).

Try an ifconfig -a the next time the network stops working and post the output here.
Is it a dynamic IP or static? Public range or private range IP?
