firewall and ftp server

OK I am still thinking about putting on Linux RedHat 6.0 on another machine and I have some questions.

Is it possible to put a firewall and an ftp server on the same linux box, or do i need a dsl router as well. I am told I need a dsl router, but i really don't want to buy it.

Do I really need it??

if youre using xDSL, then yes, youll need a xDSL router/modem/bridge. you can run any type of server off any type of connection, though faster ones are preferred.

it is possible, though maybe not advisable, to run a ftp server on the same machine as the firewall.
