I can run a query fine as root, but not as a common user.

WHY NOT?

I have no idea what grip even is, but it sounds like a permissions error... chmod 777 grip

Grip is a cd player/encoder. I can run grip just fine as myself, but it doesn't query the cddb right over my dsl connection.

If I run it as root, I don't have that problem.

I have tried chmoding ppp0, and eth0 but no joy.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know....

I don't think you can chmod an interface (can you?) How did you install Grip? If you installed it as root, there's probably some files/folders that can't be accessed by normal users. Maybe try re-installing Grip as a user? Other than that, I'd do a chmod 777 on all the files that Grip installed

GRIP ISN'T THE PROBLEM!!!

I can open grip, I can run grip I can rip files.

As root, I can query the cddb fine. As myself I cannot.
