apache permissions (mailreader 2)

I am trying to configure a Debian mail server w/ web mail. Currently I am using the Mail Reader 2 client. This client recquires that you have several folders w/ writable access but no http access. how would i go about doing that?

also i am trying to put them in an alternate location, (/var/mr/*/ instead of /var/www/*/) would that make any difference?
