I have a setup with linksys network in a box, 2 cards, 1 in each 'puter <1linux 1 win>
cable modem going to switch....after playing with samba, I can see the windows box, but can't get into it, and windows doesn't see linux....is there a IP numbet for the switch, like the routers have??? what am I missing here, and YES I have read everything till my eye's bleed on this..... :D

No, switches don't have IPs. It sounds like you still hav some Samba work to do.
Can you at least ping each machine from the other? When you say you can see the Windows box but not get into it, what exactly do you mean?

Actually switches do have IPs but not yours.

Yes I can ping the windows box, and it is there under lineighborhood &lt;is that the right name?&gt; but as far as browsing the HD, no...no error, just when I "open" the C drive from linux, I don't see any DIR, or files.....as far as windows, I can't see my linux box
BTW it's drake 8 I am working with if that helps

Have you declared your shares on each box and configured smb.conf correctly?
