Well I'm not networking my linux box yet but I do have a question about my WinME network. I have 2 PC's that have WinME and they are networked...I have 10/100 cards and a 10/100 netgear switch. I have TC/IP and NetBEUI installed. I have one card set as 192.168.4.1 and the other as 192.168.4.2...
My problem is the slow speed of the network...IT takes about 3 minutes for a 4.5 meg file...That is way to slow...I see around 11K a sec sometimes...Both the cards and the switch report running at full duplex.
ANy help would be appreciated!!

 Maybe your switch is defect. Try a cross cable...if it faster you know where the problem is...

Alright I will try that. I was thinking that earlier but I couldn't find a crossover cable

Stating the obvious- but that IS slow. Basically look at your adaptors in Network Properties and make sure you are using the correct frame type and length.
Other than that, if a crossover cable makes the connection faster you have a defective switch; it may even be a defective card/buffer or bus. To test these you can use the diagnostic disks that come with Netgear equipment to pick up on where exactly the error is coming in.
Give the crossover cable and diagnostics a go, and let us know!
